Returning from an African visit, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad waves upon his airport arrival in Kuala Lumpur Thursday May 8, 1997. It was announced that Mahathir would spend two months abroad starting May 19 on business and vacation. Mahathir is expected to appoint Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (background) as acting prime minister in his absence. Mahathir will stay in Europe between visits to promote his Multimedia Super Corridor project, taking vacation time, to avoid having to adjust to different time zones.
